Jasmine Lerma

The image is a poem inside of a flower-like structure. Each portion is separated by some text. The text reads (going from left to right)

1. There lies a seed in the musky water. A seed that will grow to become a beautiful flower. The seed crawls its way from the bottom to top, much like people. The seed then becomes a bud that sits on top of the unclean water.

2. At night, the flower waits underneath the cloudy surface. Then during the day, the flower appears above the clouded, muddy water to come out of its shell one petal at a time. One by one the petals unfold to reveal the beauty of the white lotus.

3. Its pure white color stands out in the dirty, musky water. To think that something this beautiful and pure could grow somewhere as impure and dirty as this place. The process that the beautiful white lotus goes through is known to resemble rebirth and is commonly used as a metaphor for life. As someone can come from a cruel environment and still grow up to be caring and kind just the same as someone who came from a completely different environment.
