Vecindario Review is a new student-run journal that brings together students at the University of Arizona and students in Tucson high schools to examine and interrogate local issues through writing, video and art. We are currently accepting submissions in prose, fiction, poetry, art, photography, interviews and nonfiction. We welcome previously unpublished work from writers of all backgrounds and identities.
The editors aim to respond to manuscripts in a timely fashion, and ask that you wait a minimum of one month to send follow-up inquiries. Please send inquiries by email to vecindarioreview@gmail.com and include the phrase “Submissions Inquiry” in your subject line. In your email please include an introductory paragraph on who you are and the piece you are submitting. Include your name, your school, your grade and a description of your submission. The submission window closes April 1st, 2022.
Editorial practices
Vecindario Review’s editorial board and designers are a collaborative group of high school and college students. This means that each issue of the journal takes on new forms and styles. We are also accepting applications for our editorial board. If you are interested in one of these positions, email vecindarioreview@gmail.com with the subject line “editorial board application.” Include a one paragraph biography and an explanation of why you would like to join the editorial board. Also, explain which genre you would like to edit (Prose, Poetry, Interviews, Photography, or Art).
Online publication
Our journal is an online publication so we encourage contributors to take advantage of that medium by incorporating multigenre and multimedia components to their submissions. These projects could include visual poetry; creative writing that incorporates images, art or video; photography exhibitions that include audio; ect.
